Strength that has effort in it is not what you need. What you need is strength that is the result of ease. —Ida Rolf

What to Expect

What does a Rolfing session look like?

Each session will begin with a verbal check-in, in which I want to hear about your particular experience with your body and specific goals you may have pertaining to the session or series. Then the hands-on portion of the session includes work where you may be standing, sitting or lying on a massage table. I may ask you to perform small movements while I apply light to deep pressure with my fingertips, hands, knuckles, fist, forearm or elbow. The end of session will include some neck work, and seated backwork, with possible movement components. A typical session will be 90 minutes, however allow an extra 15 minutes for the first session, as I will often take longer for the initial intake.

What to wear?

Clients are asked to wear running shorts or full coverage underwear, and sports bras for female-bodied people. However your comfort is first and foremost, so other options include tank tops or swim suit tops/bottoms, leggings, or (preferably form-fitting) athletic wear. Clients are not draped when on the table, so that I can see the response of the work on the whole body system, however a sheet or blanket can be used for temperature comfort if needed. Please come clean and scent neutral.

New Offering— Bonework

What is Bonework? It’s a method of working more directly with bones, the densest connective tissue in the human to help them relate better to one another, mold, and even change shape.  The living bones in our body are far more malleable than the brittle sun-bleached ones your dog finds on the trails.  They have the incredible capacity to adapt and change under specifically applied pressure.

If you’ve ever had a fracture, dislocation, or even a jammed finger or jarring fall, your bones may have changed position and relationship with one another.  Bonework can help them find a more comfortable and settled place, and reduce adhesions caused by bone scarring during the initial healing process.  As with all Rolfing® practices, Bonework is gentle and subtle, moving at the pace of molasses on a cold day.  Despite the slow speed of intervention, sometimes the body can respond quite rapidly, making a 45-min bonework session ideal for anyone dealing with a straightforward or more recent injury. Bonework is safe to receive 12 weeks after a fracture.
